Making A New Choice

I am putting this post first because I believe that it is one of the BEST personal finance articles I’ve read in months. David on Finance is a brand new personal finance blog, and this article about the joy that can be found when you decide to change your habits and live a frugal life is just awesome. Seriously, you need to read this article!

Debt Reduction Tips

Financial Tip For W.A.H.M.s submitted an article about methods for quickly reducing debt.

Money Walks writes an article about How To Pay Down That Credit Card Debt. I like the following from suggestion number 3: “If you’re trying to reduce your debt, the last thing you want to do is to keep adding to it.”

What do you do after you have paid off your last credit card debt? (Besides jump up and down with joy?!?) Read this article by Ask Mr. Credit card to find out!

Emergency Fund Issues

The Mercurial Scribe writes about the need for an Emergency Fund. Two reasons to like this post. One, it’s about finance. Two, it’s about PERSONAL finance. If I want to read about finance, I’ll pickup a book about macroeconomics. I read personal finance blogs because I like to read the “personal” side of personal finance.

Frugal For Life submitted this article about creating a savings “bill” for yourself, so that you can build up your emergency fund. I love this idea. I’m always for breaking down a problem into small, bite-sized, solutions.

Attitudes About Debt

Irregular Payments has written a wonderful article about debt and the “good debt vs. bad debt” debate. Let me just say, this is a post “after my own heart”. A must read, even if you disagree. (Irregular Payments has a cool looking website, too. I am super-jealous of that awesome RSS button!)

The Wastrel Show submitted a post about resisting the urge to use a credit card. Have you ever been there? Yep, me too.

The Happy Rock might go cash-only in July in order to test Dave Ramsey’s theory that we spend less when we use cash. (I’ve heard Dave say this a thousand times. I’ve often wondered where he gets that information.)

The Simple Dollar writes about different philosophies about debt. Trent concludes that you should listen to your heart. As always, Trent does a great job of explaining the various view points surrounding this particular topic.

I’d like to thank all of the bloggers who participated in this week’s Carnival of Debt Reduction. The quality of the articles submitted was superb. If you submitted an article, but it was not included, please feel free to contact me. I may or may not change my mind about including it.

You were right about recommending that first post; it was a beautiful thing to read. People need the hope that they can get out of debt and that is why it is good to read someones personal experience with debt.
